What does the Boston Tea Party have to do with a tavern in Rockville?

In December of 1773 the citizens of Boston were furious over excessive British taxation imposed on them and revolted, throwing a cargo of tea into Boston Harbor.

Other colonies, including Maryland, responded to Parliament with a series of Resolves issued in June 1774. Here in what was then “lower Frederick County” citizens met at Hungerford Tavern in Rockville and penned their contribution to Maryland’s response. Join us as we explore the identities of the men who were part of the committee, what the resolves meant, and where archaeologists believe Hungerford’s Tavern was located.
