Colonial Taverns

Join Peerless in-person at the Glenview Mansion as Historian Jim Johnston gives an illustrated presentation on the unique role taverns played during colonial times. As the United States prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of the revolutionary war, come learn about these uniquely American places where the American Revolution was born and reared.

Beyond alcohol, taverns were the restaurants, motels, Starbucks, and community centers of their day. There is nothing like them today. Railroads and prosperity were their demise. James Johnston has studied and written about taverns – and has frequented a few – and will share his research and experiences.
