One hundred years ago, Dr. James Lyons and Elizabeth Smith Lyons, prominent new owners of Glenview, embarked on an ambitious renovation project to transform their weekend home into an enviable contemporary country estate. DC architects James A. Lockie and Irwin Stevens Porter designed a new stone house that would envelop and expand the existing 1838 structure, surrounded by landscaped grounds and formal gardens by John H. Small III. The result is the Neo-Classical Revival mansion that today is the star of Rockville’s Civic Center. Join Peerless Rockville for a walking tour of the Mansion where you’ll learn about the remarkable beauty of this building and the privileged but poignant lives of the Lyons family who lived there.
