June 11, 2024 marks the 250th anniversary of the Hungerford Resolves, when ten men from the area that became Montgomery County signed a set of historic agreements at Hungerford’s Tavern in the tiny crossroads village now called Rockville, in sympathy with the blockaded City of Boston following the Boston Tea Party. Join Peerless Rockville as we commemorate this notable event with three lectures on colonial and revolutionary war history.
1 pm: Becoming Americans by Sandra Heiler This talk places the Resolves in the context of the transition of American colonists from Englishmen and -women to Americans, focusing on the chain of events that led to the Resolves, what they agreed, why they were historic, and what happened next.
2:15 pm: Lower Frederick County on the Eve of the American Revolution by Eileen McGuckian This illustrated talk will describe places, personalities, and life in our crossroads village and its colonial neighbors in the late 18th century.
3:30 pm: Colonial Taverns by Jim Johnston This illustrated presentation on the unique role taverns played during colonial times. As the United States prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of the revolutionary war, come learn about these uniquely American places where the American Revolution was born and reared.
