Hungerford Tavern was an important site in the history of Montgomery County serving as a gathering place for prominent locals. In 1774, the Hungerford Resolves, a response by citizens to new taxes imposed by the British were written there as part of a colonial reaction that ultimately resulted the Declaration of Independence. But where was the tavern? The location has been debated since the building identified as the tavern was torn down in 1913. Join us for a Lunch & Learn examination of artifacts recovered in the 1980s and documents related to the building to explore what these things can tell us about the building that may have stood on the site.
