Peerless Rockville

celebrates 50

In 1974, a small group of concerned citizens met in a local living room, worried about the destruction of Rockville’s historic buildings between the then recent obliteration of our original main street and new threats along West Montgomery Avenue.

In the intervening fifty years, Peerless Rockville has been at the forefront of preserving Rockville’s historic resources, sharing the stories of Rockville’s people and places, and collecting the images, artifacts, and local knowledge that make up our City’s past and present for the benefit of the future.

In the upcoming months, we will celebrate fifty years of saving places, researching Rockville’s history, and building an inclusive community that knows where it came from and recognizes the important contributions and unique experiences of our diverse population.

Peerless Rockville hopes you will join us as we mark this significant anniversary and opportunity to celebrate the history and heritage of Rockville and all the benefits of historic preservation.

Thanks to Everyone who came to Places Saved Weekend!

Happy Hour with History at the Historic Rockville B&O Railroad

Our Happy Hour with History at the Historic B&O Station in Rockville on Friday night, October 4 was great fun! It was fantastic to be back at the site of one of Peerless Rockville’s early preservation successes. The station looked spectacular, the music by Sean Chyun and the DCeivers brought smiles to many faces, and people enjoyed a variety of cocktails from Twin Valley Distillery

A special thanks to our hosts, the law firms of Gill, Sipple, Gallagher and Bernstein (aka Rockrail Partnership) and Paul Gaiser, architect, and all our volunteers who helped to make the evening special!

Visit, Seek, and Explore Tour

Thank you for everyone who came to Visit, See, and Explore Rockville on Saturday October 5! Visitors toured Frieda Fromm Reichmann’s Cottage, heard stories of Peerless Rockville’s role in rescuing and restoring the Dawson Farmhouse and Wire Hardware Store, learned about the Rockville Academy, ate Ice Cream at Vinson’s soda fountain (in it’s home at the Rockville Public Library), and visited a model Railroad at the historic B&O Station

Special thanks to the Rockville Public Library, Maryland TTrak, the National Capital Trolley Museum, Paul Gaiser, and all the volunteers who helped us staff the various sites.
