Peerless Rockville commends the leadership of student leaders from the Thomas Wootton Social Studies Honor Society for adopting the role of sponsoring a roadside marker honoring Revolutionary hero Thomas Sprigg Wootton. On September 1, 1776, Wootton put forth a resolution in the Maryland General Assembly dividing Frederick County into three districts. The lower district was named Montgomery County and five days later, the resolution was passed by the General Assembly. Maryland’s present-day District 17 Legislative Team and the Montgomery County Executive fully embraced the concept of
the marker, and in March 2015, the State Highway Administration followed this initiative with the installation and unveiling the Thomas Wootton tribute.
