Resources

The Peerless Rockville Collection consists of a Museum Collection and a Research Library.

The Museum Collection has predominantly original objects, photographs and other archival materials. It includes over 3,500 historic photographs from the mid 19th century by photographers such as Malcolm Walter and Roy Perry, and collector Charles Brewer; over 100 years of business records from Welsh/Ward/Wire Hardware Store; aerials and other maps; blueprints; mid 19th century correspondence from the Anderson-Vinson Family; and Oral Histories. Access to this Collection is controlled.

Donations of objects and materials that document or evoke Rockville’s story as a community and as the county seat for Montgomery County are appreciated and are tax deductible. Referrals/inquires for people or organizations interested in doing oral history interviews are welcome!

More about the Museum Collection 

The Research Library contains slides; publications; unpublished  manuscripts; subject files categorized by street, historic designation,  people, religious institutions, cemeteries, and others; Rockville Historic District Guidelines; and How-To sheets from genealogy to documenting your home or community.  Peerless Rockville has also authored many publications.  Appointments are encouraged to ensure staff is available to assist users.  Guides and finding aids are available to help users find information.

Requesting Research Assistance

Peerless is open for research during public hours Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, or by appointment.  We recommend you call Peerless at 301.762.0096 or email  info@peerlessrockville.org ahead of time to ensure we have staff available to assist you.  It is helpful to speak to us about your research question or topic so we can prepare for your visit.  We encourage students to learn about our research materials and intern opportunities.  Please read the Researcher Form for more information.
